             abstract = "This paper evaluated the life quality in the South Region of 
                         S{\~a}o Jos{\'e} dos Campos city, using the methodology 
                         developed by Ceccato (1994). The use of SPRING, Geographical 
                         Information System developed by INPE (National Institute for Space 
                         Research), made it possible to integrate a great amount of data 
                         and to establish and to map the Index of Life Quality to this part 
                         of city. The results show that there is a spatial segregation, 
                         according to the infrastructure level , health conditions, 
                         homicide index and social situation.",
